The Pace Quickens On RML MG

The RML MG-Lola campaign stepped up a gear today, October 29th, with confirmation that Chris Goodwin will join the squad as the third driver for the forthcoming Le Mans Endurance Series opener on Sunday November 9th.

Although briefly out of the GT and sportscar limelight, Goodwin brings a wealth of experience and talent to the team, and his excuse for being absent from any regular seat in motor racing is an excellent one. Contracted to McLaren as a test and development driver, the last two years of his life have been devoted to the spectacular McLaren Mercedes Benz SLR programme. “I've been solely responsible for all the development driving on that project,” he explains. “Although I have a contract with the whole of the McLaren group, and dabble in all aspects of their work, the SLR has been my focus for the last couple of years.”

With the McLaren Mercedes Benz SLR now heading into the production phase Goodwin is keen to revive his racing career. “I have managed to fit in a few races here and there,” he admits. “I raced for RML in the Saleen in the ELMS during 2001, where I took two wins out of two races. More recently I have done a couple of British GT races in a Lotus that RML prepared for one of their customers, and I also competed in the Spa 24 Hours with EMKA. We actually led the race outright, briefly.”
