Saturday, 31st May – 14:10hrs….I’m walking in Pit Lane at the Le Mans 24 Hour Circuit, soaking in the atmosphere of this incredible place. I’m here with the Nissan Team for the official test day in what is undoubtedly the most famous place in Sportscar Planet!

It has been two years – far too long! – since my last visit to this incredible Arena of Motorsport. The grandstands may be empty right now but they will be jam-packed in a couple of weeks time…

It’s 21 degrees C, a few clouds around but plenty of blue skies too…it’s another beautiful day at La Sarthe.

What a difference three years make in this game… The standards have gone up incredibly, throughout the field. No mistaking who the three main protagonists are…Audi, Porsche and Toyota fighting for overall honours and their cars look absolutely awesome. The Aston Martin pit garages look amazing too, with a mainly white/grey background used in the Pit Garage boards, the brightly liveried Gulf cars really contrasting well ahead of it. Bravo Aston Martin!

Le Mans is one of those rare race tracks that gives you a great sense of history, a kind of nostalgia about our sport that you rarely feel anywhere else…Monza gives me a similar feeling. When you arrive at these tracks…it’s like the track is full of stories and you can’t help but think of the famous names of our sport.

I am here as the Official Test Driver for the Nissan ZEOD RC. I’ve been involved with this project for the last three months and along with Nissan Academy Winner Wolfgang Reip, we will be putting this incredible machine through a series of high speed runs here at Le Mans. More to the point…we will be making history, as the car will do its first full lap of the 8.5 mile circuit on battery power only!

Today is the first opportunity for all engineers to settle into Garage 56 and make the first necessary checks on telemetry/radio systems and go through all the information gathered during testing to make sure the ZEOD RC is ready to go at 9am tomorrow.

I can’t wait to pilot the ZEOD around this fantastic circuit…It will be a real treat to power down the Mulsanne on EV Power…. Cool…very cool!!
